Im a mom of Five daughters, so Ive faced this problem a few times and I still have two more daughters to go through this with. Some of the dresses were not that bad. It's better to go with your daughter to find a dress that you both can agree on. Make sure that your daughter brings the proper under garment and heels, so that you'll have an idea how the dress might hang or that she fits into the dress properly. Back in 1979, my mom and I bought a dress that came in 3 pieces, I needed a strapless bra that fit a size 36 DD breast. Thank heavens for Montgomery Wards.lol I almost missed my prom because of looking for that bra. Needless to say, my dress looked beautiful, because I had the right body foundation on and nothing was out of place.

I don't normally comment on here or any other website but I am shocked at the comments on here. The actual dresses aren't all that bad and any parent that cares about their daughters is going to monitor the dress that she wears to prom. Really, I thought this was a website for moms' not dirty men or boys (i.e. Forumfaller and Cole) and Momlogic you think u could do a better job of monitoring your comments. As for the post from Toplessallthetime...there really was no need for your disgusting littel tale. I am not a prude in anyway but I am sure there are a million other websites you could post those little comments on...it certainly isn't wanted nor appreciated here.
Some of them are hideous but as for the majority....maybe if they stood up straight, closed their legs, took their hands out of there crotches, and looked the way most teenage girls look when they have on a sparkly dress and too much make-up, the the dresses wouldn't look so SHOCKING! To me it's the model that looks like a slut not the dress.
I personally think that there will always be clothing that certain people view as inappropriate - that is a fact. The important thing is not spend all your energies fighting something that won't go away. As a side note, though I agree generally that many of those gowns are distasteful, I'd rather have sex marketed to our teenagers than violence (you can chop someone's head off in a PG-13, but flash a boob and it's R?). Also, I think it's the responsibility of the parent to raise girls with self-esteem and EDUCATE them about their sexuality. Because if the parents don't, who would? Not knowing that should be enough incentive to do it yourself.
The latest comment said something about women wanting to bear a little midriff not making them a slut. This is true; however, there is a difference between showing a "little" midriff and baring enough for a day at the beach. Also, a lot of the risque dresses on the market are not appropriate for teenage girls who are still discovering their sexual identity. As the mother of a son, I have always said if they insist on wearing ever more revealing clothes, she is not allowed into our lives.

Actually, most of these dresses aren't that bad. Maybe who ever threw this gallery together liked to dress like a nun, but just because a woman wants to bare a little midriff doesn't make her a "slut"
I am neither mortified nor speechless. Most of these dresses are shown on models. All that means is that they are available for sale.
It doesn't mean that they were actually worn to a prom. I only see one or two photos that appear to be of actual prom-goers.
There's no controversy about a dress being ugly or made in a hideous color.
That being said -- what is the mental malfunction of that one with the pregnant belly hanging out? That is just sad on so many levels.

I find that in most cases wether or not something looks slutty has more to do with the person wearing it than the outfit itself.(ie toplessallthetime)

I've seen worse at my school prom, most of these dresses are just hideous, nobody in their right mind's would wear these.

Oh, and the one with the two straps barely covering the boobage? Obviously an editorial shot - nice try, we're not fooled.
