Inventory Spices
Sounds silly — but spices are expensive! Pull out every spice you own and make a list to inventory what you have. This spice list is helpful when you prepare your holiday menu and grocery list. Many Thanksgiving recipes require dried herbs such as rosemary, thyme or sage; desserts require other spices like cinnamon, nutmeg or allspice. Knowing what you have on hand will prevent you from buying duplicates. As you run out of a spice, cross it off the list — and as you purchase spices, add them to the list. I did this the other day and realized I had three jars of crushed red pepper flakes! Inventory how much sugar, flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda you have before assuming you need to buy them.
